Celestial Champions – An experimental exploration of hemp through monomateriality, is my masters thesis from Aalto University. The purpose of the project was to test monomateriality as a sustainable design strategy and to show that hemp is a versatile textile material, also for garment purposes.
The result of the project is a collection of nine garments in five looks made primarily from hemp. Out of the nine garments only two were made using bought hemp fabrics. The rest of the garments were either knitted by me or made from fabrics I designed.
The inspiration behind the collection is work by Afrofuturist artists like Lina Iris Viktor, Sun Ra and El Anatsui.
